Mallory Salazar, a junior at Buena Vista High, took third in the girls 2A final by clocking 20:19.82 on the 5-kilometer course at the Colorado High School Activities Association state championship meet at Norris Penrose Events Center in Colorado Springs. Salazar helped Buena Vista capture its first girls team title in program history with a 31-41 victory over Lake County. Buena Vista hadn't won a team championship since a boys Division III crown in 1961.
